An Omaha couple caught a would-be thief on their property on videotape. They say home security cameras are worth the money.
Cindi Jasa watched a live view of her driveway on her kitchen TV. “Who would even suspect anything at eight o'clock on Saturday morning?'
A man pulled into the Jasa's driveway near 108th and Center and checked out their vehicles. Cindi watched on the home security camera. 'Very bold, I can't believe someone would pull into your driveway and just take their time trying to get in.'
A wallet on the seat of a locked car tempted the suspect to attempt a break in. “He's violently trying to break into my car,” says Doug Jasa. “The whole car is moving up and down.”
Hearing Doug and Cindi in the house, the burglar drove off without stealing anything, but the Jasas have the suspect's picture on their $5,000 multi-camera security system.
“Instead of trying to remember or trying to get out here to see or be home to see, now you've go it recorded for the judge to see,' says Doug.
The night vision cameras watch over the Jasas home day or night and if they're not home, they can just hit rewind and find out what they missed. "I feel better about my home, any activity that we've had, I can go back and see what’s happened," says Doug.
A Saturday morning attempted break in shows that thieves will strike anytime whether someone's home or not.
Omaha Police recovered the black car they believe was used by the suspect, which turned out to be stolen.
